…Moghalu calls for more visible and effective security efforts

The iNews Times reports that the Labour Party governorship candidate, Chief Dr. George Moghalu has expressed deep sorrow over the gruesome killing of Ichie Kennedy Igboanugo, along with his two wives and daughter, in Ekwuru Isseke, Ihiala Local Government Area.

The tragic incident, which occurred on Wednesday, May 22, 2025, was reportedly carried out by unidentified gunmen, sparking outrage and grief throughout Anambra State.

In a heartfelt statement released by his media center, Dr. Moghalu condemned the attack, describing it as a painful reminder of the growing insecurity that continues to threaten peace and stability across communities in the state.

“This is not just another crime—it is a painful reminder of the urgent need to strengthen our collective security efforts,” he said.

Moghalu, former Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA) called on government, traditional rulers and local communities to unite in building a more secure and peaceful Anambra.

He emphasized the need for proactive measures to ensure such tragedies do not occur again.

“When families are slaughtered in their homes, we must respond with unity, urgency, and compassion. Enough is enough.

“We must work together to restore peace and hope in our communities,” he added.

The LP candidate extended his condolences to the grieving Ekwuru Isseke community and expressed deep concern for the only surviving daughter of the Igboanugo family.

He urged the authorities and well-meaning individuals to provide trauma care, financial assistance, and guaranteed protection for the young girl.

“To the daughter left behind—your pain is beyond words. But you are not alone. We must stand by you—not just in words, but with meaningful help and protection,” he said.

Highlighting the rising wave of violent crimes even in the state capital, Awka, Moghalu called for more visible and effective security efforts.

“This is not the time for distractions or delay. The safety of our people must come first. We need visible and effective steps to rebuild confidence and secure our communities,” he concluded.

Moghalu prayed for the repose of the souls of the victims and urged that their deaths serve as a wake-up call for renewed commitment to public safety and the protection of all citizens.
