OYO, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | The Oyo State Police Command has arrested a robbery suspect and recovered a stolen motorcycle following an attack on two residents in the Olorunda Aba area.
In a statement on Saturday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Ayanlade Olayinka, said the arrest occurred on December 25, 2025, after officers from the Olorunda Aba Division responded to a distress call around 10:30 p.m.
According to Olayinka, two armed men on an unregistered motorcycle, wielding machetes, attacked the victims, Mutiu Adeyemo and Akinpelu Ojo—at Adanla Area, Eniosa, Olorunda Aba, and stole their TVS motorcycle.
“Upon noticing the police patrol team, the suspects attempted to escape with both their motorcycle and the stolen one, triggering a hot pursuit,” the statement said.
During the chase, one suspect abandoned the stolen motorcycle and fled into nearby bushes, while the other fell from his bike while trying to evade arrest.
“The second suspect, later identified as Sunday Onah, was apprehended by the patrol team,” Olayinka added.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the arrested suspect confessed to the crime and admitted that he and his accomplice had engaged in similar criminal activities previously.
“The stolen motorcycle was recovered and secured as evidence,” he said.
The command said efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect, and the investigation has been intensified. Upon completion, the arrested suspect will be charged to court.
The Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Command, Femi Haruna, commended the operatives for their professionalism, prompt response, and dedication, and directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for detailed investigation.
Haruna also expressed gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police for his leadership and strategic support, which continue to enhance the operational effectiveness of the Nigeria Police Force.
The command reassured residents of its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and urged the public to cooperate by providing timely and credible information to aid crime prevention and detection.
