…the Federal Government said the planned arraignment followed an extensive investigation

‎‎ABUJA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | The Federal Government (FG) has announced that suspects connected to the recent killings in Yelwata, Benue State, will be arraigned in court on Monday, February 2, 2026.

‎The disclosure was made in a statement released on Sunday by Kamarudeen Ogundele, Special Assistant to the President on Communication and Publicity in the Office of the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice.

‎According to the statement, the Federal Government said the planned arraignment followed an extensive investigation carried out through the combined efforts of several government agencies. It noted that some of the suspects arrested and strongly linked to the killings would be brought before the court to answer for their alleged crimes.

‎Ogundele confirmed that the suspects would be tried at the Federal High Court in Abuja, adding that the case would be presided over by Justice Joyce Abdul-Malik.

‎The AGF’s office described the investigation as painstaking, underscoring the seriousness with which the government views attacks on citizens. It assured Nigerians that justice would be served, stressing that the move was intended to send a strong warning to those who perpetrate violence under any guise.

‎The statement also reiterated the commitment of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration to safeguarding lives and property in line with constitutional provisions.

‎The iNews Times reports that the Yelwata killings, which sparked widespread condemnation at both local and national levels, have renewed concerns about insecurity in parts of Benue State, an area long troubled by communal clashes and criminal activities.

‎The upcoming court proceedings are expected to offer a sense of accountability and reassurance to residents affected by the attacks.
