…The association also urged the Kebbi State Government to ensure justice for the deceased
KEBBI, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | Kebbi State Chapter of the Association of Motor Dealers of Nigeria (AMDON), has expressed deep anger over the alleged killing of one of its members, Tukur Alhaji Salihu, aged 45, by operatives of the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) of the Nigeria Customs Service, Zone B, Kaduna, deployed to Kebbi State.
In a statement signed by the association’s secretary, Shehu Yusuf Bunza, AMDON said the incident occurred on February 7, 2026, between 11 a.m. and 12 noon, along the Nagari College–Illela/Yari axis within Birnin Kebbi metropolis. He described the incident as a grim reminder of the rising cases of alleged extrajudicial killings and human rights violations in Kebbi State and across the country.
Bunza said the association views the act as a deliberate and unjustified use of force, which has created fear, panic, and shock among its members and residents of the state.
He lamented that the killing reportedly took place in broad daylight, adding that the operatives involved appeared to have acted with impunity and total disregard for the sanctity of human life.
AMDON strongly condemned the incident and called on the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice. The association also urged the Kebbi State Government to ensure justice for the deceased and protect the rights of his family.
According to the statement, the deceased, who is survived by two wives, seven children, and his elderly parents, was rushed to a hospital after the incident but died around midnight. He was later buried in his hometown of Argungu. The association extended its condolences to the family and prayed that Allah grants them the strength to bear the loss.
AMDON further called on the Nigeria Customs Service to immediately investigate the matter and take steps to prevent a recurrence. It also demanded that the Kebbi State Government provide adequate compensation and support to the bereaved family.
The leadership of the association disclosed that the incident has been formally reported to the appropriate authorities and that it is cooperating fully to ensure a comprehensive investigation.
The group appealed to its members and the general public to remain calm and refrain from taking the law into their own hands, expressing confidence that justice would be served.
It also called on the National Human Rights Commission, the Nigerian Bar Association, and other rights groups to intervene and ensure accountability.
On another account, the deceased was said to have been a passenger at the time of the incident and was allegedly shot multiple times, not while driving.
