LAGOS, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | The African Democratic Congress (ADC) Lagos State chapter has warned residents not to submit photographs or details of their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) to political organisations or unauthorised individuals.
The caution was contained in a statement released on Thursday in Lagos by the party’s Directorate of Communication and signed by Mr. Oluwasegun Adekayero.
Adekayero said the party became aware of a circulating message urging residents, particularly those in Lagos Mainland, to forward clear images of their PVCs via WhatsApp for political mobilisation purposes.
He described the move as risky and capable of undermining voter privacy and the integrity of the democratic process.
According to him, the ADC finds it necessary, in the interest of public safety and democracy, to advise Lagosians against disclosing sensitive personal information to partisan groups. He noted that the PVC is a confidential electoral document issued by INEC and contains sensitive data that must be carefully protected.
Adekayero warned that the indiscriminate gathering of PVC images through informal channels raises serious concerns about data protection, voter security and the potential misuse of personal information.
He emphasised that voter mobilisation efforts must be lawful, transparent and respectful of citizens’ rights, adding that political engagement should foster trust and confidence, not fear, coercion or undue influence.

Reaffirming the party’s stance, Adekayero said the ADC remains committed to issue-based politics and credible democratic practices in Lagos State. He added that the party would continue to focus on civic education, policy-driven dialogue and lawful grassroots engagement rather than collecting private voter information.
He maintained that democracy flourishes when citizens are well-informed, protected and respected.
