‎…According to Sani, the anti-corruption agency must ensure that all allegations raised by the Assembly are properly examined,

‎kADUNA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | ‎A former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, on Sunday demanded a thorough probe into the eight-year tenure of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, alleging corruption, abuse of office and severe hardship during the period.

‎Addressing journalists in Kaduna, Sani urged security and anti-graft agencies to investigate what he described as the mismanagement of hundreds of billions of naira between 2015 and 2023. He specifically called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to act on the alleged indictment of the former governor by the Kaduna State House of Assembly.

‎According to Sanj, the anti-corruption agency must ensure that all allegations raised by the Assembly are properly examined, stressing that no individual should be treated as being above the law.

‎The former lawmaker further claimed that Kaduna State endured significant hardship during El-Rufai’s administration, citing insecurity, controversial demolitions, and alleged human rights abuses as some of the challenges faced by residents. He described the period as one of the most trying in the state’s history.

‎Sani also questioned the former governor’s democratic record, alleging that journalists, activists, clerics and community leaders were arrested or detained while he was in office. He called on security agencies to intensify efforts to unravel the disappearance of political activist Abubakar Idris, widely known as Dadiyata, who has been missing since 2019.

‎He argued that justice and accountability cannot be fully addressed without resolving lingering cases such as that of Dadiyata.

‎Sani’s comments come on the heels of recent remarks made by El-Rufai during an interview on Arise TV, where the former governor criticised the current administration. Sani described the criticism as inconsistent, noting that El-Rufai had campaigned vigorously for President Bola Tinubu in the 2023 general elections.

‎He maintained that one cannot promote a candidate as the best choice for the country and later criticise the same administration, calling such conduct politically contradictory.

‎The former senator also asserted that El-Rufai’s political influence had waned before he left office, pointing to what he termed the ruling party’s performance in parts of Kaduna during the last elections.

‎Commending Governor Uba Sani, he cited improvements in security, especially a reported decline in kidnapping incidents, and encouraged residents to back ongoing peace efforts in the state.

‎Looking ahead to 2027, Sani reaffirmed his support for Tinubu and Governor Sani, while emphasising that Nigerians ultimately have the right to elect leaders based on competence, integrity and dedication to national unity.

‎Meanwhile, El-Rufai has consistently denied any wrongdoing, insisting in previous public statements that his administration introduced reforms designed to strengthen governance and fiscal discipline in Kaduna State.
