‎Anambra Assembly Set to Reinstate Lawmaker Suspended for Online Post ‎

‎…the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Somtochukwu Udeze, directed the Committee on Rules, Ethics, and Privileges to review Udemezue’s suspension as a preparatory step for his recall.

‎‎ANAMBRA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | The Anambra State House of Assembly has initiated steps to recall Bernard Udemezue, the suspended member representing Ayamelum Constituency.

‎In August 2025, it was reported that Udemezue was suspended for three months over a message he shared on social media, which the House deemed “damaging content.” The post alleged that his constituency, Ayamelum, was being marginalised regarding constituency allowances.

‎Following the post, on August 28, 2025, the House, acting on a report from the Committee on Ethics and Privileges that indicted Udemezue for “unparliamentary conduct,” resolved to suspend him for three months. Later, he received an additional three-month suspension for failing to comply with the House’s initial directives. The extended suspension, which began on November 26, 2025, is set to end on February 26, 2026.

‎During Tuesday’s plenary, the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Somtochukwu Udeze, directed the Committee on Rules, Ethics, and Privileges to review Udemezue’s suspension as a preparatory step for his recall. The Committee, chaired by Majority Leader Ikenna Ofodeme, was tasked to “urgently re-examine the matter in line with the House resolution and report back at the next adjourned session.”

‎The Speaker emphasized that “the suspension remains subject to review by the Committee, which is expected to assess the level of compliance by Hon. Udemezue with the resolutions of the House before making its recommendations.”

‎The House subsequently adjourned plenary to February 19, 2026.
