ANAMBRA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | At least three security operatives reportedly collapsed from exhaustion during the second-term inauguration of Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo.
The incidents occurred at different points during the ceremony held on Tuesday at Dr Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka.
The three affected operatives were said to have succumbed to fatigue after enduring prolonged parade activities under intense heat and harsh weather conditions.
Those involved included a male police officer, a male operative of the Directorate of State Services (DSS), and a female officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
The police officer was the first to collapse during a parade. He was followed by the female NSCDC operative, who slumped towards the end of the event and was later assisted into an ambulance after declining to be carried on a stretcher. The DSS operative also collapsed in front of the podium during the parade.
A security source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that the police officer was revived at the parade ground but remained in an unstable condition and was subsequently taken by ambulance to Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka.
As of the time of filing this report, there were no updates on their conditions, as security authorities have yet to issue official statements on the incident.
