…urged the court to dissolve the marriage, grant her custody of the children, and compel Ayinla to take responsibility.
IBADAN, NIGERIA- The iNews Times| A marital dispute between a couple has unfolded before the Grade A Customary Court sitting at Mapo in Ibadan, as both parties levelled serious allegations against each other.
The petitioner, Mosunmola, dragged her husband, Ayinla, before the court, accusing him of irresponsibility, neglect, and failing to cater to her welfare and that of their children. She alleged that he frequently returned home late at night and showed little commitment to family life.
According to her, the marriage was marked by constant quarrels and repeated separations, which eventually forced her to leave when she could no longer endure the situation. She further claimed that she single-handedly catered for their children’s feeding and education throughout their union.
Mosunmola also accused her husband of physical abuse, stating that he often beat her and failed to fulfil traditional marital obligations, including properly paying her bride price.
She urged the court to dissolve the marriage, grant her custody of the children, and compel Ayinla to take responsibility for their upkeep.
In his defence, Ayinla agreed to the dissolution of the marriage but denied several of the allegations. He insisted that he paid ₦2,000 as bride price and accused his wife of being disrespectful and excessively talkative.
He also alleged that Mosunmola neglected his welfare, claiming she stopped cooking for him and instead asked him to provide money for his own meals.
The defendant further described her as a poor role model for their children and maintained that the marriage effectively ended when she moved out of his home.
After listening to both parties, the court president, Mrs. S.M. Akintayo, adjourned the case for judgment.
