…IPOB urged Igbo people and their friends to return home for the festive season and consider investing in the South-East, assuring them of safety and hospitality.
SOUTH-SOUTHEAST, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has called on Igbo people, both at home and in the diaspora, to return to the South-East in large numbers for the Christmas celebrations, assuring them that comprehensive security measures have been put in place across the region.
In a statement released by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Comrade Emma Powerful, the group said that security personnel from its Eastern Security Network (ESN), together with community volunteers, would work to ensure safety throughout the festive period.
IPOB characterized the South-East as one of Nigeria’s most peaceful regions, emphasizing that security has improved despite what it called “sponsored instability” in recent years. The group claimed that efforts to depict the region as unsafe were overstated and intended to undermine its activities.
The group also rejected reports of a recent kidnapping along the Owerri–Aba Expressway at Ngor Okpala, describing the video circulating online as an old clip that had resurfaced on social media.
IPOB stated that security operations conducted by the Eastern Security Network (ESN) are typically carried out discreetly and are not publicised online. The group emphasized that ESN does not maintain official social media accounts and cautioned the public against misinformation.
The organisation accused the Federal Government and certain political actors of attempting, unsuccessfully, to disrupt its activities, while reaffirming its long-standing call for the self-determination of the Biafra region.
IPOB urged Igbo people and their friends to return home for the festive season and consider investing in the South-East, assuring them of safety and hospitality. The group concluded by wishing travellers a peaceful Christmas and safe journeys.
