The development was disclosed in a statement issued by Captain Muyiwa Ayara on behalf of the Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 14 Brigade Ohafia.

According to the statement, the operation was carried out in the early hours of April 3, 2026, following credible intelligence gathered by the Brigade Intelligence Regiment.

Acting on the intelligence, troops launched a targeted clearance and fighting patrol into the forest, during which four IEDs were discovered strategically planted at different points within the area.

The Troops said the explosives were believed to have been deployed to restrict troop movement and shield suspected insurgent hideouts within the forest.

Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams from the 14 Brigade were immediately mobilised to handle the threat. The devices were safely detonated on site, while some components were recovered and moved to a secure location for further technical examination.

Military authorities noted that the recovered materials would support ongoing intelligence efforts and provide valuable insights into the tactics and operations of the suspected insurgent group.

The successful operation highlights ongoing efforts by security forces to combat threats and maintain stability in the region.
