IMO, NIGERIA- The iNews Times| The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the death of a police inspector who was knocked down by a truck while on duty in Imo State.
According to Force Public Relations Officer Anthony Placid, the incident occurred at Amaraku while the officer, attached to the Isiala Mbano Division, was conducting a lawful stop-and-search operation.
The officer was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre Owerri, where he was later confirmed dead. His remains have since been deposited in the hospital mortuary.
Officer said the driver, Chisom Ajah, and the Mack truck involved have been taken into custody and handed over to the State Motor Traffic Department for further investigation.
Reacting to the incident, Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu expressed condolences to the family and colleagues of the deceased, assuring that a thorough investigation would be carried out.
The officer also urged motorists to obey traffic regulations and exercise caution, especially around checkpoints and duty posts, to prevent similar tragedies.
