‎…the minister had earlier projected that power generation would reach 6,000 megawatts by the end of last year.

‎ABUJA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times| Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, is set to step down from the cabinet of Bola Ahmed Tinubu as he prepares to pursue his governorship ambition in Oyo State ahead of the 2027 elections.

‎

‎The development was disclosed in a statement by his spokesperson, Bolaji Tunji, who said the minister is expected to resign in the coming days to focus on his political aspirations.

‎

‎Adelabu’s tenure has faced criticism over persistent challenges in Nigeria’s power sector, including inadequate electricity supply despite a tariff increase introduced in April 2024.

‎

‎In recent months, Nigerians have continued to experience unstable power supply, with generation levels fluctuating between 2,500 and 3,500 megawatts, far below the country’s needs for its population of over 250 million people.

‎

‎The minister had earlier projected that power generation would reach 6,000 megawatts by the end of last year, a target that was not achieved.

‎

‎While Adelabu has acknowledged the sector’s challenges at various forums, critics argue that more concrete solutions were needed to address the ongoing electricity crisis.

‎

‎His expected resignation marks a significant political shift as attention gradually turns toward the 2027 general elections.
