SOKOTO, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | Sokoto State, despite ongoing security concerns and widespread fear in both urban and rural areas, has directed through its Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) that all public primary and junior secondary schools reopen for the second term on Monday, January 5, 2026.

SUBEB stated that the first-term holiday will officially conclude on Sunday, January 4, 2026, with academic activities resuming the following day across all schools under its supervision.

Tambuwal called on key stakeholders in the education sector including parents, guardians, traditional and religious leaders, School-Based Management Committees (SBMCs), and Parents Teachers Associations (PTAs) to cooperate fully and ensure students return to school promptly, despite prevailing security challenges.

Sokoto State education secretaries and school support officers have also been instructed to begin rigorous monitoring and supervision of schools immediately, ensuring adherence to the resumption schedule and maintaining educational standards.

To reinforce oversight, the SUBEB chairman announced that three special monitoring and supervision teams, each led by a permanent board member, will be deployed across the state’s three senatorial zones to evaluate school readiness and resumption compliance.

Furthermore, Tambuwal urged contractors handling classroom construction, perimeter fencing, borehole projects, and furniture supply to expedite their work and ensure timely completion in line with contractual obligations.

The Board reaffirmed its commitment to promoting access to quality basic education and protecting the academic future of children in Sokoto State, even amid ongoing security challenges.
