Governor urges prudence, synergy and accountability as new cabinet begins second-term mandate.

AWKA, NIGERIA – The iNews Times | Governor Chukwuma Soludo Swears-in 18 Commissioners and formally inaugurated a new State Executive Council, charging members to embrace prudence, synergy and a deep sense of public accountability in the discharge of their duties.

The swearing-in ceremony, held at the Executive Council Chambers, Light House, Awka, marks the official rollout of what the governor described as “Team Solution 2.0,” coming weeks after he dissolved his former cabinet following his second-term inauguration.

In this report, we examine the key developments, reactions from stakeholders, and the broader implications.

Background of the Story

The decision to reconstitute the cabinet follows Governor Soludo’s renewed mandate and his pledge to deepen reforms across key sectors of Anambra State.

Shortly after securing a second term, the governor dissolved his previous executive council, a move widely interpreted as a strategic reset aimed at injecting fresh energy into governance.

The screening and confirmation of the new nominees by the Anambra State House of Assembly cleared the path for their formal inauguration, signaling a transition from campaign promises to renewed policy implementation.

Key Developments

Speaking after administering the oath of office, Soludo described the appointments not as grounds for celebration but as a call to rigorous work and sacrifice.

He reminded the commissioners that their decisions would directly affect the lives of more than nine million residents of the state, underscoring the weight of responsibility placed upon them.

The newly sworn-in commissioners include Ben Odoemena for Agriculture; Chukwukadibia Okoye, FCCA, for Budget and Economic Planning; Udoji Amedu for Culture, Entertainment and Tourism; and Dr. Ekene Ogugua for Education.

Others are Dr. Clem Aguiyi for Environment; Dr. Afam Obidike for Health; Dr. Law Mefor for Information and Value Reformation; Professor Offornze Amucheazi, SAN, for Lands; and Vin Ezeaka for Local Government and Community Affairs.

Also inaugurated were Prof. Charles Ofoegbu for Petroleum and Mineral Resources; Chijioke Oseloka Ojukwu for Physical Planning and Urban Development; Engr. Casmir Agummadu for Power; Engr. Okey Ezeobi for Works and Infrastructure; and Eddy Ibuzo for Transport.

The list further includes Esther Onyekesi for Women Affairs and Social Development; Patrick Agha, MBA, for Youth Development and Sports; Arc. Henry Arinze as Commissioner for Housing; and Mr. Nonso Chukwuma Ebonwu as Commissioner for Commerce.

In addition, Soludo inaugurated heads of key government agencies, including Mr. Emeka Okonkwo as Managing Director of the Anambra Road Traffic Agency (ARTMA); Dr. Ossy Onuko as Managing Director of the Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA); Mr. Fred Agbata as Managing Director of the Information Communication Technology Agency; and Engr. Obi Okonkwo as Managing Director of the Bureau of Public Procurement (BPP).

Earlier, Barr. Tochukwu Nweke, SAN, had been sworn in as Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, while Izuchukwu Okafor assumed office as Commissioner for Finance.

Reactions from Stakeholders

Political observers who spoke to The iNews Times described the composition of the new executive council as a blend of technocrats, academics and experienced administrators.

A public policy analyst in Awka noted that “the governor appears to be doubling down on expertise and sector-specific competence. The real test will be how well these commissioners collaborate across ministries.”

Some civil society groups have urged the new cabinet to prioritise fiscal discipline, job creation and improved public service delivery, especially amid economic pressures affecting households nationwide.

Implications

The inauguration of the 18 commissioners under the banner of “Team Solution 2.0” signals an attempt to consolidate gains from Soludo’s first term while accelerating reforms in infrastructure, healthcare, education and economic planning.

The governor’s emphasis on prudence suggests a continued focus on fiscal responsibility, particularly in a period marked by fluctuating revenues and national economic uncertainty.

Moreover, the call for synergy indicates that the administration intends to reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks and encourage cross-ministerial collaboration, a key factor in achieving measurable development outcomes.

For residents, expectations are high that the reconstituted executive council will translate policy frameworks into tangible improvements in roads, power supply, employment opportunities and social services.

What Happens Next

With the cabinet now fully constituted, attention shifts to the rollout of detailed policy agendas by each ministry.

Stakeholders anticipate early signals of performance benchmarks, budget alignments and timelines for flagship projects under the second-term agenda.

The coming months will likely reveal how effectively “Team Solution 2.0” can convert campaign pledges into measurable results.

Conclusion

Soludo Swears-in 18 Commissioners at a critical juncture for Anambra State, setting the tone for what he describes as a renewed era of disciplined, people-focused governance.

As the new executive council settles into office, the burden of expectation rests squarely on its shoulders.

The iNews Times will continue to monitor the performance of the reconstituted cabinet and provide in-depth analysis of its impact on governance and development across Anambra State.
