…investigations revealed that the defendant falsely presented herself as a NAFDAC official to gain credibility.
LAGOS, NIGERIA- The iNews Times| Justice Mojisola Dada of the Special Offences Court in Ikeja has convicted and sentenced a Lagos-based woman, Remilekun Temitope Balogun-Okedeyi, to one year imprisonment for impersonating an official of the NAFDAC in a visa-related fraud scheme.
The judgment, delivered on April 14, 2026, followed her prosecution by the ICPC after investigations uncovered her involvement in fraudulent activities linked to international travel documentation.
The case stemmed from a petition submitted by the British Deputy High Commission, which raised concerns over irregularities tied to visa processing and documentation.
Investigations revealed that the defendant falsely presented herself as a NAFDAC official to gain credibility and facilitate a visa racketeering operation, thereby deceiving unsuspecting victims and authorities.
During the trial, the prosecution team, led by Yvonne William-Mbata, presented evidence showing that Balogun-Okedeyi deliberately misrepresented her identity and benefited financially from the scheme.
A prosecution witness, Mr. Onyema, also detailed how the fraudulent network operated and the critical role the impersonation played in executing the scam.
The defendant, represented by Mrs. Grace Adenubi of the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria, pleaded guilty to the amended charge, which expedited the proceedings.
In her ruling, Justice Dada sentenced the convict to one year imprisonment, with an option of a N500,000 fine. The court also ordered her to undertake community service within the court premises and to sign a bond of good behaviour.
