Chinese Students: Trump Aggressively Revokes Visas

Donald Trump crack down on Chinese students

…the administration will revoke visas for Chinese students with connections to the Chinese Communist Party

The Donald Trump administration has announced plans to “aggressively” revoke visas of Chinese students in the United States, citing national security concerns, iNews Times reports.

According to Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, the administration will revoke visas for Chinese students with connections to the Chinese Communist Party or those studying in critical fields.

This development is seen as a show of defiance after China criticized president Trump’s decision to suspend visa appointments for students worldwide.

The US will revise visa criteria to enhance scrutiny of all future visa applications from China and Hong Kong, the iNews Times learnt.

American universities rely heavily on international students, with China sending over 270,000 students in the 2023-2024 academic year. However, India surpassed China as the top sender of international students for the first time in years.

The development has left many students uncertain about their future plans to study in US. A PhD student from Taiwan set to study in California expressed concerns about the delay, saying, “All I can do now is wait and hope for the best.”

Students of Harvard are also worried that the Trump administration’s policies will make US universities less attractive to international students.

Trump has been critical of Harvard University, attempting to block the university from enrolling international students.

Rubio emphasized that the administration aims to prioritize Americans interests, noting that the new visa policies “put America first, not China”.
