‎…Umahi explained that the committee will oversee critical operational areas such as transportation planning, accommodation arrangements

‎‎ABUJA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | The Minister of Works, David Umahi, on Tuesday inaugurated the Accommodation and Transportation Committee for the upcoming national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as the ruling party intensifies preparations for what is expected to be one of its largest political gatherings in recent years.

‎The convention is scheduled to take place in Abuja from March 27 to 28, 2026, and is expected to draw thousands of delegates, party leaders, government officials and special guests from across the country.

‎According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Senior Special Assistant to the Minister of Works (Media), Francis Nwaze, the committee will coordinate accommodation and transportation logistics for the large number of participants expected at the event.

‎Umahi inaugurated the committee at the Transcorp Hilton Abuja, urging members to begin early preparations to ensure a smooth and well-organised convention.

‎The minister, who co-chairs the committee with the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, noted that the success of major political events largely depends on effective logistical planning.

‎Umahi explained that the committee will oversee critical operational areas such as transportation planning, accommodation arrangements, hotel engagements, and the movement of delegates and special guests throughout the convention.

‎The statement noted that the committee is structured to handle the convention’s key logistics. Umahi chairs the transportation component, while Governor Yusuf heads the accommodation arm. Both units are expected to work closely to ensure efficient coordination.

‎“Our leaders and special guests must be properly accommodated. Transportation between hotels, airports and the convention venue must also be carefully organised,” Umahi said.

‎“When logistics run smoothly, the convention proceeds seamlessly. But when they fail, even the most carefully planned event can be disrupted. It is therefore the responsibility of this committee to ensure that accommodation and transportation arrangements are properly planned, well coordinated and professionally executed.”

‎He expressed confidence in the committee members, noting that their experience and leadership roles in government and the party would contribute to a successful convention.

‎“I am confident that with the experience, commitment and leadership represented in this committee, we will work together to ensure that the APC 2026 National Convention is conducted in an organised, efficient and successful manner,” he added.

‎Umahi then formally declared the committee inaugurated, stating that it would operate pending the official separation of the transport and accommodation units.

‎Earlier, the Secretary of the committee and Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, said the composition of the committee reflects the importance the party places on the success of the convention.

‎Represented by Aderemi Oseni, Dangiwa noted that the committee includes governors, ministers, senators and other senior party leaders responsible for ensuring smooth logistical coordination.

‎He emphasised that efficient accommodation and transportation arrangements will play a major role in how effectively delegates and party officials participate in the convention’s activities.

‎“The smooth organisation of the convention will depend largely on effective logistical arrangements, particularly accommodation and transportation for delegates and party officials,” he said.

‎“If the logistics are well handled, the political processes of the convention will proceed smoothly. But when arrangements are poor, even the most carefully planned events can face disruptions.”

‎Dangiwa added that the committee will coordinate hotel bookings for party leaders, delegates and special guests, while also arranging transportation between airports, hotels and the convention venue.

‎The APC national convention is one of the party’s most important gatherings, bringing together delegates from across the federation to deliberate on party policies, elect members of the National Working Committee and shape the ruling party’s political direction.

‎The convention also comes as the APC, which has governed Nigeria since 2015, seeks to strengthen its internal structures and reinforce party unity ahead of future elections.

‎With the inauguration of the logistics committee, party officials say preparations have now entered a crucial phase aimed at ensuring the convention is conducted smoothly and showcases the organisational capacity of the ruling party.
