…as Senate refers the Service Chiefs nominees to the Committee for screening and confirmation next week.

ABUJA, NIGERIA – The iNews Times | President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has formally requested the Senate to screen and confirm his newly appointed service chiefs, marking another key phase in the administration’s ongoing military leadership reshuffle.

The President’s request was conveyed in a letter read on the floor of the Senate on Tuesday by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

According to the letter, the nominees are: General Olufemi Oluyede as Chief of Defence Staff; Major-General Waheedi Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff; Rear Admiral Idi Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff; Air Vice Marshal Kennedy Aneke as Chief of Air Staff; and Major-General Emmanuel Undiendeye as Chief of Defence Intelligence.

Following the reading of the letter, Senator Akpabio directed that the nominees be referred to the Committee of the Whole for screening and confirmation next week.

The development comes barely a day after President Tinubu met with the newly appointed service chiefs behind closed doors at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where discussions reportedly focused on national security priorities and inter-agency coordination.

The Senate’s confirmation exercise is expected to test the readiness and policy direction of the new defence leadership team as they prepare to take charge of Nigeria’s armed forces amid persistent security challenges across the country.
