KANO, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | The Kano State Police Command has launched an investigation into the brutal killing of a 35-year-old woman and her six children in the Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters area of the state.
It was gathered that the victims, along with another individual, were attacked and killed in their home on Saturday by suspected hoodlums. The incident has plunged the Dorayi Chiranchi community in Kano state into deep mourning, with residents calling for tighter security and swift measures to prevent a repeat.
Reports indicate that the attackers forced their way into the house and assaulted the occupants with dangerous weapons.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Kiyawa, said the command received a distress call around 12:10 pm on Saturday, alerting them to an attack on the residence of one Haruna Bashir.
He said the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Bakori, promptly deployed a team of officers to the scene, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Lawal Mani.
According to Kiyawa, the victims were rushed to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital in Kano, where they were confirmed dead on arrival.
He added that the Assistant Commissioner of Police overseeing the Criminal Investigation Department, Wada Jarma, had been tasked with leading the probe to identify and apprehend those behind the attack.
The police command expressed sympathy with the bereaved family, the Dorayi Chiranchi community and the people of Kano State, assuring them that concerted efforts were being made to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.
