Flagging off the Skill Acquisitions Centre, led by Chairman of Governing Council Sen Barnabas Gemade, Awuzie said the facility was part of her vision for skills development and community service.

According to the Rector, the center is aimed at providing informal training in various skills, including tailoring, shoe making, welding and block moulding.

“The skill acquisitions centre is part of my mission statement and is aimed at empowering staff and students with useful skills.

“It will not only provide a platform for skills development but will also generate revenue for the institution, which is facing funding challenges,” she added.

Earlier, the Rector conducted free medical outreach programme, which provided medical services to the polytechnic community.

The outreach was part of the Rector’s efforts towards promoting health and wellbeing among staff and students.

The Rector appreciated the Chairman of the Governing Council and his team for sanitizing and repositioning the institution.

She also announced that the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) has accredited the Geological Technology department.

She revealed that plans were underway to introduce Nursing Technology and Pharmaceutical departments.

While applauding the Rector for her vision and achievements, Gemade said the skill acquisitions centre would favour many people, saying, “it’s a great way for individuals to improve their lives.

The Council Chairman who was visibly impressed with the Rector’s achievements, described them as a prove to her vision and leadership.

Director of Student Affairs, Dr. Asomugha C also commended Awizie for her numerous achievements in the institution, describing them as amazing and phenomenal.

The Ufuma campus, which was shut down by the previous administration, has been reactivated and is now open for admitting students into evening programmes, weekend and part-time programmes.

The events were attended by members of the Governing Council, management, staff and students of the polytechnic.
