…Kogi State Sports Commissioner is not a credible Man – Kogi Athletes

Athletes from Kogi State on Thursday staged a protest in Ogun State over the non-payment of their allowances by the State Ministry of Sports, iNews Times reports.

They accused the state’s commissioner for Sports, Monday Anyebe of not taking care of their welfare.

The protesters carried placards with inscriptions such as “Kogi State Commissioner is not a credible Man” and “Commissioner must Go,” calling for Anyebe’s immediate removal.

The athletes, who are camping at Babcock University Ilisan-Remo, expressed loss of confidence in the commissioner’s leadership and alleged poor treatment.

According to Vivian Eberechukwu, a table tennis player, they were underpaid, receiving N30,000 instead of the expected N70,000.

They also condemned the state’s failure to provide sports kits and equipment.

Eberechukwu suggested establishing a Sports Commission in Kogi State to address sectoral bureaucracies.

The athletes passed a vote of no confidence on Commissioner Anyebe, citing his alleged failure to care for them.

A boxer, Celestina, also spoke out, urging the state government to respond to their plea.

The athletes, who won several medals, including three bronze medals, are demanding action from the state government.

The coaching crew’s allowances also remain unpaid, iNews Times learnt.
