…Anambra Central Senatorial Seat is widely regarded as one of the most strategic positions in the state.

AWKA, NIGERIA — The iNews Times reports that the race for the Anambra Central Senatorial Seat ahead of the 2027 General Election has begun to gather momentum as a leading contender on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Hon. Dozie Nwankwo, formally declared his intention to contest.

Hon. Nwankwo, who previously represented Dunukofia, Njikoka and Anaocha Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives, said his decision to seek the Anambra Central Senatorial Seat is driven by a desire to expand his legislative impact from the Green Chambers to the Senate, often referred to as the Red Chambers of the National Assembly.

On Tuesday, the former federal lawmaker stormed the APGA State Secretariat in Awka, accompanied by a large crowd of supporters and party faithful, where he officially picked his expression of interest form. The declaration signals what many observers describe as an early strategic move in the contest for the Anambra Central Senatorial Seat.

Political watchers in Awka note that early declarations often shape internal party alignments, especially within APGA, which remains a dominant political force in Anambra State.

Speaking shortly after completing the formalities, Nwankwo told journalists that consultation with his people and party structures informed his decision to join the race.

“I am here to consult with my people and my party because I am officially in the race for the Anambra Central Senatorial Seat. I have come to inform my party members of my intention to contest and to seek their support,” he said.

Aligning With Governor Soludo’s Vision

A key pillar of Nwankwo’s message was alignment with the development blueprint of Anambra State Governor, Charles Chukwuma Soludo.

The senatorial hopeful pledged to key into the governor’s existing programmes and provide legislative backing at the federal level to strengthen policies that promote security, technological innovation, and grassroots empowerment.

“I want to key into the vision of our working Governor. Every good policy driven from Abuja down to the grassroots, I will support him in the area of security, technology, fighting insecurity with technology, empowerment of the youths and women and, most importantly, the policies that help us live in peace in Anambra Central,” Nwankwo stated.

His emphasis on technology-driven security solutions reflects a growing national conversation on digital surveillance, data systems, and coordinated intelligence as tools to address insecurity.

Focus Areas: Security, Technology, Youth and Women Empowerment

Hon. Nwankwo outlined three major priorities if elected to represent Anambra Central at the Senate:

  1. Strengthening security through modern technology
  2. Advancing technology-driven development initiatives
  3. Empowering youths and women through targeted programmes and legislative frameworks

Observers say these themes are likely to resonate strongly with voters in urban and semi-urban communities across the district, particularly in Awka and surrounding areas where youth unemployment and digital innovation remain pressing issues.

By centering his campaign message on security and empowerment, Nwankwo appears to be positioning himself as a bridge between state-level reforms and federal legislative action.

From the Green Chambers to the Red Chambers

Having served in the House of Representatives under APGA, Nwankwo’s experience at the federal level could become a defining factor in the contest for the Anambra Central Senatorial Seat.

Supporters at the declaration event described him as a seasoned lawmaker with a track record of constituency engagement. While the political field for 2027 is still taking shape, analysts say his early entry signals seriousness and preparation.

The 2027 General Election may still be months away, but political activities in Anambra Central are already intensifying, with stakeholders closely watching alignments within APGA and other parties.

What This Means for Anambra Central

The Anambra Central Senatorial Seat is widely regarded as one of the most strategic positions in the state’s political structure, given its influence on federal representation and resource advocacy.

As the race unfolds, issues such as federal allocations, security collaboration, infrastructure development, and youth empowerment are expected to dominate campaign discourse.

For now, Hon. Dozie Nwankwo has made his position clear: he is officially in the race.

The iNews Times will continue to monitor developments surrounding the Anambra Central Senatorial Seat and provide in-depth coverage, analysis, and updates as the 2027 political season gradually unfolds.
