Party schedules fresh primary exercise across affected federal and state constituencies amid preparations for 2027 elections.

AWKA, NIGERIA – The iNews Times | APGA Supplementary Primary Election arrangements have officially been announced by the All Progressives Grand Alliance https://officialapga.ng in Anambra State, with fresh exercises scheduled to hold in selected wards across several federal and state constituencies on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

The announcement, issued through a public notice signed by the APGA State Chairman, Ifeatu Obi-Okoye, informed party members, aspirants, and stakeholders that supplementary primary elections would be conducted in affected wards within Awka North, Awka South, Njikoka, Anaocha, and Dunukofia areas.

According to the party leadership, the APGA Supplementary Primary Election exercise is being organised under the directives of both the National Assembly Electoral Committee and the State Assembly Electoral Committee to address outstanding issues in selected constituencies ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In this report, we examine the key developments, reactions from stakeholders, and the broader implications.

Background of the Story

Political parties across Nigeria have continued intensifying internal preparations ahead of the 2027 elections through ward congresses, stakeholder consultations, and primary election processes aimed at producing candidates for various elective positions.

In Anambra State, APGA remains one of the dominant political forces and has historically maintained significant influence within the state’s political structure.

Primary elections are considered a critical phase in the democratic process because they determine party flagbearers who eventually contest general elections.

However, disputes, logistical challenges, and complaints from stakeholders often lead to supplementary exercises in areas where processes are deemed incomplete or contested.

The latest APGA Supplementary Primary Election announcement appears designed to address unresolved areas and ensure broader participation by party members in the affected wards.

Key Developments

According to the notice released by the party, supplementary primaries will be conducted in several wards under the Awka North and Awka South Federal Constituency.

The affected wards include Awka Ward 5, Nibo Ward 2, Nibo Ward 3, Nise Ward 2, Mbaukwu Ward in Awka South Local Government Area, as well as Amanuke Ward and Ebenebe Ward 1 in Awka North Local Government Area.

The APGA Supplementary Primary Election will also take place within the Dunukofia/Njikoka/Anaocha Federal Constituency.

The party listed Abba Wards 1 and 2, Abagana Wards 1, 2, 3 and 4, alongside Nimo Wards 1, 2, 3 and 4 in Njikoka Local Government Area as locations scheduled for the exercise.

In addition, supplementary primaries are expected to hold in Nibo Ward 3 and Mbaukwu Ward for the Awka South II State Constituency.

The party directed all eligible members in the affected wards to report to designated election venues by 9am with their Permanent Voter Cards for accreditation and voting.

According to the notice, the APGA Supplementary Primary Election will be conducted using the Option A4 voting system in line with the party’s approved guidelines.

Party aspirants were also advised to mobilise supporters peacefully and ensure orderly participation throughout the exercise.

“The party expects full compliance and cooperation from all concerned to ensure a credible and seamless exercise,” the statement noted.

Reactions from Stakeholders

The announcement of the APGA Supplementary Primary Election has already generated discussions among party members and political observers in Anambra State.

Some stakeholders described the move as a necessary step toward addressing concerns raised in affected wards and strengthening confidence in the party’s internal democratic process.

Political analysts noted that supplementary exercises are often sensitive because they can influence final candidate emergence and alter political calculations within constituencies.

Party loyalists meanwhile urged members and aspirants to maintain peace during the process to avoid disputes capable of creating divisions ahead of the general elections.

Some observers also stressed the importance of transparency and fairness during the exercise, especially in politically competitive areas within the state.

Implications

The APGA Supplementary Primary Election may significantly shape political alignments and candidate selection outcomes ahead of the 2027 elections in Anambra State.

Analysts believe the conduct of transparent supplementary primaries could strengthen public confidence in the party’s internal processes and reduce post-primary disputes.

The exercise may also influence future political alliances and grassroots mobilisation efforts across affected constituencies.

Beyond APGA, the development reflects the growing intensity of political activities already unfolding across Nigeria as parties position themselves ahead of another election cycle.

What Happens Next

Attention will now focus on Tuesday’s supplementary exercise and whether the process will proceed peacefully across all designated wards.

Party officials are expected to supervise accreditation, voting, and collation activities while ensuring compliance with approved electoral guidelines.

Observers also anticipate close monitoring of the process by aspirants and stakeholders eager to avoid controversies capable of escalating into legal or political disputes.

Conclusion

The announcement of the APGA Supplementary Primary Election marks another important phase in the party’s preparations for the 2027 elections in Anambra State.

As party members prepare to return to the polls in affected wards, the credibility and transparency of the process may play a crucial role in determining both political stability within the party and confidence among grassroots supporters ahead of the general elections.
