NIGER, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | The Federal Government has secured the release of 100 pupils kidnapped from St. Mary’s Private Catholic Primary and Secondary School in Papiri, Agwara Local Government Area of Niger State.

The development was reported on Sunday by TVC News and Channels Television, although federal authorities had yet to issue an official confirmation at the time of filing this report.

The attack occurred on November 21, when gunmen invaded the remote community around 2am, arriving on motorbikes and operating for nearly three hours. A total of 315 people were abducted, 303 students and 12 teachers.

Within the first 24 hours, about 50 pupils managed to escape and were reunited with their families, leaving 265 victims still in captivity.

In response to the attack, security agencies, including specialised police units and military forces, were deployed to the area and began combing surrounding forests in search of the abductees.

The incident is part of a growing wave of school kidnappings across Nigeria. Just days earlier, on November 17, 2025, gunmen attacked the Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School in Maga, Danko-Wasagu LGA of Kebbi State, abducting 25 students and killing the vice principal.

In Kwara State and across other parts of north-central Nigeria, worsening insecurity has forced state authorities to shut down multiple schools and review security measures following similar attacks and threats.
