…Peter Okoye said he would make the same decision even if pressured by family elders.

LAGOS, Nigeria — The iNews Times reports that Nigerian music star and former P-Square member, Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, has reignited public attention over the long-running Okoye family crisis, declaring that protecting his peace of mind now outweighs family ties.

In a series of strongly worded posts shared on Wednesday via his verified X (formerly Twitter) account, Peter Okoye dismissed widespread speculation that his wife played a role in the renewed family dispute. The singer described such claims as misleading and a deliberate attempt to shift attention from what he insists are deep-rooted internal issues that predate their marriages.

“Before you drag any woman into this! No woman directed or advised anyone to steal from what I worked for over the years. Stop pushing that narrative to suit your agenda,” Peter Okoye wrote.

According to the award-winning artiste, the family breakdown did not begin recently, nor was it triggered by external influences. Instead, Peter Okoye stressed that the alleged betrayal and financial disagreements date back more than two decades.

“None of us were even married 20-something years ago when this whole betrayal and stealing started! I said what I said,” he added.

The comments appear to address ongoing narratives circulating on social media suggesting that marital relationships may have influenced the strained bond between Peter and other members of the Okoye family.

Peter Okoye acknowledged that the prolonged crisis has been emotionally draining. However, he reaffirmed his decision to prioritize his mental wellbeing over maintaining relationships he believes have become harmful.

“Yes, it’s painful. And yes, it’s my loss. But no one should keep reminding me that I was betrayed and used by my own blood for over 20 years plus,” he stated.

Reinforcing his stance on personal boundaries, Peter Okoye said he would make the same decision even if pressured by family elders.

“Even if my parents were alive and supported this kind of betrayal, I’d still choose to step back, cut them off and protect my peace. Boundaries are necessary! Blood isn’t thicker than my peace of mind,” he declared.

The phrase has since gained traction online, with fans divided between those supporting his emphasis on mental health and those calling for reconciliation.

In what appears to be a significant escalation, Peter Okoye revealed that the dispute has now taken a legal dimension.

“Now that I’ve uncovered the betrayal that has been going on for over 20 years plus, suddenly we’re blood? No… it doesn’t work like that. We are still in court!” he wrote.

While he did not provide specific details of the court proceedings, the confirmation suggests that efforts to resolve the disagreement privately may have failed.

The Peter Okoye controversy forms part of a broader and long-standing tension involving his twin brother Paul Okoye and their elder brother Jude Okoye.

As members of the iconic Nigerian music duo P-Square, Peter and Paul dominated Africa’s music scene for over a decade. Known for hit songs, electrifying performances, and global tours, P-Square was widely regarded as one of the most successful African music groups of its era.

However, in 2017, the group officially split following disagreements over business operations, management structure, and financial transparency. Jude Okoye, who managed the group for years, was frequently mentioned in connection with the disputes.

Although the brothers reunited in 2021 to massive fan excitement performing together and releasing new projects the reconciliation later collapsed amid renewed allegations of financial irregularities and mistrust.

The family crisis has also intersected with legal troubles involving Jude Okoye. He is currently facing prosecution by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of money laundering and diversion of music royalties.

Jude Okoye has consistently denied the allegations. The matter is currently before the Lagos State High Court and has been adjourned to May 15, 2026.

Observers note that the unfolding legal issues may further complicate reconciliation efforts within the family.

The renewed statements by Peter Okoye have sparked widespread reactions across social media platforms, with fans revisiting past interviews, public fallouts, and reconciliation attempts.

Music industry analysts say the prolonged dispute has had mixed effects. While it may have affected the P-Square brand, both Peter Okoye (Mr P) and Paul Okoye (Rudeboy) have built independent music careers since their separation.

Still, many fans continue to hope for a permanent resolution, given the duo’s cultural impact on African pop music.

Beyond the celebrity headlines, Peter Okoye’s comments highlight broader conversations about family loyalty, personal boundaries, and mental health awareness issues increasingly discussed within Nigerian society.

As the court proceedings continue and public reactions grow, The iNews Times will monitor developments closely, bringing readers verified updates on the Peter Okoye family crisis and related legal proceedings.
