New Political Party Emerges: Atiku, El-Rufai Seek INEC Registration

2027 Presidency: Atiku, El-Rufai Float New Political Party

Atiku and El-Rufai Float New Political Party

…INEC on Friday acknowledged the application for the new political party.

There has been a significant development in Nigeria’s political landscape as the National Opposition Coalition Group, led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, has formally approached the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the registration of a new political party, the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), The iNews Times reports.

INEC on Friday acknowledged the application dated June 19, 2025, marking a crucial step towards the party’s formation.

This development signals the coalition’s determination to float a new platform, rather than aligning with any of the existing political parties.

The formation of the new party boasts an impressive lineup of key political heavyweights, including former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi and Umar Ardo, convener of the League of Northern Democrats and former aide to President Olusegun Obasanjo.

These prominent figures aim to capitalize on mounting public dissatisfaction and political realignments to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s administration in the 2027 election.

The ADA’s symbol features a maize (corn), which represents abundance, resilience, and sustenance-core ideals the party hopes to promote.

These values will serve as the foundation for the party’s ideology and operations, the application letter stated.

The application letter, jointly signed by the association’s Protem National Chairman, Chief Akin A. Rickets, and Protem National Secretary, Abdullahi Elayo, requests INEC to register the All Democratic Alliance as a new political party.

The document outlines the party’s name, acronym (ADA), and slogan (“Justice for All”). The coalition has also submitted relevant documents, including the party’s constitution, manifesto, logo, and minutes of its foundational meetings.

Interestingly, the application comes just days after INEC warned political groups that no amount of pressure or public sentiment would override the need for strict compliance with constitutional and electoral guidelines.

The commission emphasized that party registration remains a rigorous constitutional process, not merely a political declaration.

With this application, the national opposition coalition has put an end to weeks of speculation about whether it would revive a dormant political platform or launch a fresh one altogether.

As the new political party awaits further action from INEC, the party’s leaders and supporters are optimistic about the prospect of introducing a new dynamic to Nigeria’s political landscape, The iNews Times reports.
