Awka, Nigeria — The iNews Times reports that tributes poured in as prominent Nigerians gathered in Awka, Anambra State, for the Father of UNIZIK MNC Nwofor burial, honouring the philanthropist widely credited with supporting the early growth of Nnamdi Azikiwe University.
According to the Anambra State Deputy Governor, Onyekachukwu Ibezim, the late Ozo MNC Nwofor was a man who identified early with the state government’s “Think Home” development philosophy.
“He was a man that identified with the state government’s think-home philosophy early,” Ibezim said.
“From all indications, he believed deeply in Anambra State development, considering his investments in hospitality businesses, petrol stations, factories, and educational hostels and classrooms.”
The burial ceremony attracted Nigerians from all walks of life, academia, politics, manufacturing, and business, with mourners travelling from across the federation and overseas to pay their last respects.
Many described Nwofor as a man rich not only in wealth but also in compassion, noting that he was widely known for his peaceful disposition and generosity.
He is widely regarded as the father of UNIZIK, having donated the initial accommodation facilities used for classrooms, offices, and residences when the institution was establishing its presence in Awka.
His contributions also extended to the early development of the former Anambra State University of Science and Technology, which later evolved into UNIZIK.
In their message of appreciation, the head of the Nwofor family, Chuma Nwofor, thanked everyone who attended the burial ceremony.
