…the UNIZIK Leadership Transition signals a renewed commitment to administrative efficiency.
Awka, Nigeria — The iNews Times reports that the UNIZIK Leadership Transition has officially commenced as a newly appointed University Librarian and six Directors assumed duty at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, in what stakeholders describe as a defining moment for improved service delivery and institutional productivity.
The appointments, approved by the University’s Governing Council on April 17, 2026, took effect formally on Monday, April 20, 2026, with coordinated handover ceremonies held across key directorates and administrative units.
University staff and observers say the UNIZIK Leadership Transition signals a renewed commitment to administrative efficiency, transparency, professionalism, and strategic communication within the institution.
At the University Library, a symbolic and formal ceremony marked the handover from Acting Librarian, Prof. Oliver Onwudinjo, to the newly appointed University Librarian, Prof. Jacinta Ukamaka Eze.
In her acceptance remarks, Prof. Eze expressed appreciation to the Governing Council, University Management, staff, and students for the confidence reposed in her. She emphasized professionalism, teamwork, and dedication as essential pillars for strengthening library services.
She further assured that she would thoroughly review and sign the handover documents after proper clearance, underscoring her commitment to accountability and due process.
Prof. Onwudinjo, in his remarks, pledged his continued support and availability to provide guidance where necessary, describing the transition as smooth and collegial.
The University Library remains central to academic excellence at UNIZIK, supporting research, digital resources, scholarly publications, and student learning. Observers believe that the UNIZIK Leadership Transition at the library will likely strengthen digital archiving, research accessibility, and global academic partnerships.

At the Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Comrade Aloysius Emeka Attah formally assumed office as Director, receiving handover documents from the outgoing Acting Director, Mr. Louis Njelita, represented by Mr. Joshua Chukwu, Head of Protocol.
Comrade Attah, a seasoned journalist and public relations strategist, described the Directorate as the “face” of the University and stressed the importance of teamwork, strategic communication, and institutional reputation management.
He highlighted the leadership of the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Barr. Monsur Olugbenga Kukoyi, and the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ugochukwu Stanley Anyaehie, noting that effective communication is critical to projecting the university’s achievements.
According to him, no institution can thrive without strong information management and public engagement. Analysts say the UNIZIK Leadership Transition within the Information Directorate is expected to strengthen media relations, digital visibility, and stakeholder communication.
At the University Medical Centre, Dr. Jane Ezeonu took over from outgoing Acting Director Dr. Clement Ojukwu. She commended her predecessor for his dedication and expressed optimism about improving healthcare delivery for staff and students.

Similarly, at the Directorate of Works Services, Engr. Ibe Obinna assumed leadership from Engr. Okoye Joseph, who had served in acting capacity since November 2025. Both outgoing and incoming directors emphasized continuity, teamwork, and infrastructure development.
The UNIZIK Leadership Transition across these operational units is viewed as strategic, particularly in areas affecting student welfare, campus infrastructure, procurement transparency, and institutional sustainability.
Leadership changes also occurred at the Directorate of Physical Planning, where Engr. Ezeokafor Lawrence took over from Quantity Surveyor Okechukwu Chiedozie. The new Director pledged collaboration and efficiency in campus development projects.
At the Safety Unit, Chief Ken Chukwurah handed over to Mr. Obi Collins Chinedum as Chief Safety Officer. The new appointee assured staff that he would build upon existing safety frameworks to enhance campus security.
Security and infrastructure planning remain critical to maintaining a conducive academic environment. Many staff members believe the UNIZIK Leadership Transition in these areas could lead to stronger emergency preparedness, improved compliance standards, and safer campus operations.
All handover ceremonies were well attended by staff members who expressed confidence in the new leadership team. They urged the appointees to align their strategies with the reform-oriented vision of Vice-Chancellor Prof. Anyaehie.
Since assuming office, the Vice-Chancellor has signaled a focus on administrative reforms, improved service delivery, and repositioning UNIZIK as a competitive federal university within Nigeria and beyond.
Higher education analysts note that leadership transitions, when well coordinated, often create opportunities for innovation, policy review, and performance benchmarking. In this regard, the UNIZIK Leadership Transition may serve as a catalyst for broader institutional strengthening.
As one of Nigeria’s leading federal universities, UNIZIK plays a critical role in academic research, professional training, and regional development in the South-East. Observers say that the success of this transition will depend on collaboration, transparency, and measurable performance outcomes.
The iNews Times will continue to monitor developments at UNIZIK as the new officials settle into their roles and begin implementing their strategic plans for enhanced service delivery.
