Awka, Nigeria — The iNews Times reports that the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra State has secured the conviction of 35 traffic offenders during an FRSC mobile court session in Awka, reaffirming the Corps’ commitment to strict enforcement of traffic regulations across the state.
The FRSC mobile court in Anambra sat at the Sector Command Headquarters in Awka, where offenders apprehended during special enforcement operations across the Command’s operational corridors were arraigned.
The court session was presided over by Her Worship, Chief Magistrate Adaora Okoli, who heard cases involving motorists arrested by FRSC personnel for various traffic violations.
At the end of the proceedings, 44 offenders were arraigned before the court, out of which 35 were convicted, while nine were discharged and acquitted.
Authorities said a total of 72 traffic offences were recorded against the offenders during the enforcement exercise. However, no offender was sentenced to imprisonment.
The offences prosecuted during the FRSC mobile court in Anambra included:
- Seatbelt Violation (SUV)
- Speed Limit Device Violation (SLD)
- Driver’s Licence Violation (DLV)
- Overloading (OVL)
- Tyre Violation (TYY)
- Vehicle Licence Violation (VLV)
- Number Plate Violation (NPV)
- Other related traffic offences
According to the Sector Public Education Officer, SRC Margaret B. Onabe, the exercise formed part of the Corps’ sustained enforcement strategy aimed at reducing road traffic crashes through strict compliance with traffic regulations and improved operational visibility across the state.
She explained that the FRSC mobile court proceedings were conducted in a peaceful and orderly atmosphere without operational challenges.
“Adequate security was provided by armed personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, ensuring the smooth conduct of the exercise,” she said.
Speaking during the session, the Sector Commander, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to the strict enforcement of traffic laws and prosecution of offenders as a deterrent to reckless driving and other violations that endanger lives on Nigerian roads.
She urged motorists to comply with traffic regulations, ensure their vehicles are properly documented, and adopt safe driving practices to help reduce road traffic crashes, injuries, and fatalities.
“The command will continue to intensify enforcement operations, public enlightenment campaigns, and strategic collaborations with relevant stakeholders to ensure safer roads across Anambra State,” she added.
