Confusion deepens as appeal panel arrives Abuja, candidates dispute outcome amid growing uncertainty.

AWKA, NIGERIA – The iNews Times | The APC primaries crisis surrounding the House of Representatives elections in Anambra State has continued to generate tension and uncertainty, five days after the exercise was conducted last weekend without the official release of results.

The delay in announcing outcomes of the primary election under the All Progressives Congress (APC) https://apc.com.ng has left aspirants, party stakeholders, and supporters in a state of confusion across various constituencies in Anambra State, with mounting concerns over transparency and internal party processes.

In this report, The iNews Times examines the key developments, reactions from stakeholders, and the broader implications of the unfolding political situation.

Background of the Story

The House of Representatives primary elections conducted by the APC in Anambra State last weekend were expected to produce clear winners across federal constituencies ahead of the main general elections later in the year.

However, the process has since been overshadowed by disputes, allegations of irregularities, and the absence of officially declared results.

The APC primaries crisis has now become a central concern within party circles, as both winners and losers remain uncertain about the outcome of the exercise.

Key Developments

Five days after the primaries were held, no official results have been announced by the party leadership in the state.

The delay has reportedly created anxiety among aspirants, many of whom are already laying claim to victory while others are demanding outright cancellation of the exercise.

Compounding the situation, an appeal panel dispatched from the national headquarters of the APC in Abuja has arrived in Anambra State to review petitions and complaints arising from the exercise.

Meanwhile, repeated attempts to reach the State Chairman, Sen. Emma Anosike, have reportedly been unsuccessful, as he is said to be constantly engaged in meetings.

The ongoing silence from key party officials has further deepened the APC primaries crisis, raising questions about internal coordination and dispute resolution mechanisms.

Reactions from Stakeholders

One of the aspirants, Dr. (Barr.) Kingsley Ezekwelu, who contested in the Idemili Federal Constituency, claimed he recorded a sweeping victory across all electoral wards in the area.

He described his campaign as people-focused, insisting that voters turned out massively in support of his candidacy.

“My Idemili Federal Constituency comprising seventeen very sizable communities consequently showed high level enthusiasm by coming out en masse to vote for me,” he said.

Ezekwelu added that his consultations exposed him to the challenges facing citizens, promising to prioritize welfare and development if elected into the National Assembly.

He further argued that political contests naturally attract disputes, noting that “there must be winners and losers always.”

However, his claims have been met with resistance from other contenders within the constituency.

Chief Innocent Igboekwe, another aspirant, has called for the cancellation of the election, alleging significant lapses in the conduct of the primaries.

In a petition addressed to the national leadership of the APC, he reportedly outlined several irregularities he and his supporters observed during the exercise.

Similarly, Hon. Patrick Udoba from the Anambra East/West Federal Constituency also rejected the outcome and demanded cancellation of the process.

Implications

The ongoing APC primaries crisis in Anambra State highlights growing concerns over internal democracy within political parties, particularly in the management of delegate-based elections.

Analysts warn that prolonged disputes and delays in announcing results could weaken party cohesion and create legal or political setbacks ahead of the general elections.

The situation also risks eroding confidence among grassroots supporters, many of whom participated in the exercise expecting a transparent and timely conclusion.

What Happens Next

Attention is now focused on the appeal panel deployed from Abuja, which is expected to review petitions and submit recommendations to the national leadership of the APC.

The outcome of its findings may determine whether the primaries are upheld, adjusted, or entirely cancelled in some constituencies.

Party stakeholders are also awaiting an official statement from the state leadership to clarify the status of the delayed results and address growing concerns.

Conclusion

The APC primaries crisis in Anambra State continues to cast a shadow over the party’s preparations for upcoming elections. With results still pending and petitions mounting, the situation underscores the urgent need for clearer internal processes and stronger dispute resolution mechanisms within political parties.

The iNews Times will continue to monitor developments as the story unfolds.
