‎State PDP Chairman, Samaila Burga, disclosed this while addressing journalists in Bauchi on Saturday. He explained that negotiations broke down due to differences in the proposed sharing formula and terms presented by the APC, which the party found unacceptable.

‎

‎Burga emphasized that the PDP was unwilling to rush into any agreement that could weaken its political standing, noting that some governors who previously defected to the APC are now regretting their decisions due to a loss of political control. He cited examples from Plateau, Adamawa, Rivers, Kogi, and Kano states.

‎

‎He further revealed that the PDP had initially planned to join the APC with its full political structure intact while maintaining strong bargaining power, pointing to its governance performance in Bauchi as leverage. However, he described the APC’s conditions as “cancerous” and not in the party’s best interest.

‎

‎Following the failed talks, the PDP leadership stated that it remains open to exploring other political alliances. This includes reconsidering the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which had earlier expressed interest.

‎

‎However, sources indicate that Bala Mohammed may be hesitant about moving to the ADC due to his strained relationship with Atiku Abubakar. Additionally, concerns over internal leadership challenges within the ADC could pose risks ahead of the 2027 general elections, making the option less attractive to the governor and his allies.
