…another group within the community dismissed the claims as false, accusing Obi and his allies of fueling unrest.
ENUGU, NIGERIA- The iNews Times| Residents of Obeagu Ugwuaji community in Enugu South have called on Peter Mbah to intervene in a prolonged leadership and land dispute that has triggered multiple court cases and deepened divisions within the community.
The appeal follows protests led by a faction headed by former President General, Freedom Obi, who accused the traditional ruler, Igwe Ikenga Nya, of land sales and alleged financial mismanagement involving over ₦400 million.
However, another group within Obeagu dismissed the claims as false, accusing Obi and his allies of fueling unrest alongside alleged land grabbers and estate developers.
Community spokesperson Aloy Obodo traced the crisis to the alleged mismanagement of a multi-million-naira service apartment project initiated to generate revenue, claiming it became a channel for corruption under the previous leadership.
Caretaker Committee Chairman Joseph Ani also alleged that tensions escalated due to attempts to block an audit of past administration finances, while accusing the former leadership of mobilising youths to disrupt meetings.
Further claims by Secretary Francis Ikechukwu Egbo questioned the financial records of the former leadership, alleging discrepancies between funds generated and expenditures.
Despite the conflicting narratives, the community remains divided, with both sides trading accusations over land ownership, financial accountability, and governance, prompting calls for urgent government intervention to restore peace.
