ABUJA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | Rivers State Governor, Siminalaye Fubara, has described his defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) as one of the simplest political decisions he has ever made.
He made the remarks to journalists following his official familiarisation visit to the APC national leadership in Abuja on Wednesday night.
Fubara stated that PDP had not supported him during his trials and political challenges, although, he harbors no regrets about leaving his former party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Asked about the ease of his transition to the APC, he said:
“I think my move was one of the easiest things I have done in my life. It was very simple. Showing appreciation and gratitude is easy. Joining the APC is my way of saying thank you to Mr. President and to collaborate with other progressives to develop my state and Nigeria at large. It wasn’t a difficult decision; it was easy. If you know my story, you should understand that.”
On whether he regretted leaving the PDP, Fubara remarked:
“Honestly, was I really a member of the PDP? I wasn’t. Most of the difficulties I faced during the political crisis, 90 percent of it were imposed on me by the party. I was just there. During the crisis, I wasn’t associated with any group; I was like being on a balcony, neither inside nor outside the house.”
Explaining his visit to the APC national headquarters, he said:
“I wanted to familiarise myself with the party’s structure and operations. This way, when I return, it won’t feel like I’m new. I have come in to work with everyone to ensure the party achieves the greatness we desire, which aligns with the success of Mr. President. We are already seeing progress in Rivers State through our initiatives and the support of the people.”
Fubara added: “By standing with Mr. President, we are also standing with him. On behalf of the good people of Rivers State, supportive members of the National Assembly, and our State Assembly members, I assure you that your new home is Rivers State.”
At the event, APC National Chairman Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, represented by National Secretary Ajibola Basiru, welcomed Fubara’s defection. He said:
“We are very pleased to have you join our party. Your progressive orientation strengthens us and completes the APC’s presence in the South-South region. The geopolitical zone is now fully APC, and for political watchers, controlling the South gives significant power. With your entry, the strength of our party, which was Power 15, has now become Power 100.”
