…Kanu maintained that the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act, under which he was charged, had been repealed

ABUJA, NIGERIA- The iNews Times | Federal High Court in Abuja has scheduled November 20 for judgment in the terrorism case against the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

Justice James Omotosho fixed the date on Friday after ruling on the matter, following Kanu’s failure to open his defence despite being granted six days by the court to do so.

The judge held that IPOB Leader, having failed to utilise the opportunity to defend himself, could not claim a denial of his constitutional right to a fair hearing.

Meanwhile, the IPOB leader on Friday filed a motion challenging his trial, arguing that terrorism is no longer recognised as an offence under Nigerian law.

He argued that the Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act, under which he was charged, had been repealed, rendering the charges against him invalid.

Kanu insisted that there was no existing case against him and urged the court to dismiss the charges and order his release.
