…urges corps members to respect the customs and traditions of host communities.

Director General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu has called for financial discipline among serving corps members across the country, The iNews Times reports.

He also challenged them to cultivate the culture of saving, participate actively in lectures and the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme.

The DG made the call during official visit to the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Umuawulu/Mbaukwu, Anambra State where he interacted with over a thousand freshly enlisted Corps Members.

He commended their discipline and enthusiasm, just as he urged them to respect the customs and traditions of host communities.

He further called for responsible use of social media and digital platforms as well as mutual respect between corps members and NYSC officials

“I urge you to see your one-year service not merely as a mandatory obligation, but as a unique opportunity to contribute meaningfully to national development.

“I urge you to regard your service year as a transformative platform–not just for personal growth, but as a foundational step towards national renaissance.

Underscoring the importance of the orientation phase in instilling values of discipline, unity, and team spirit, the DG reminded the gathering of the significance of the NYSC Anthem, describing it as more than a song–a daily guide to purposeful service.

Earlier in her welcome address, State Coordinator, Mrs. Pauline Ojisua praised the professionalism and orderliness displayed by the 1,186 Corps Members currently undergoing orientation comprising 679 males and 507 females.

She described the DG’s visit as both an honour and a morale booster for the state.
