…why Tinubu Sacked the Ministers, Akume noted that the changes were aimed at strengthening cohesion.

Abuja, Nigeria — The iNews Times reports that Tinubu Sacks Ministers in what officials described as a strategic move to strengthen economic coordination and improve governance delivery under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved a minor reshuffle of the Federal Executive Council, removing the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, from their positions.

The development, which has triggered widespread reactions across political and economic circles, was disclosed in a statement issued Tuesday by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation. The statement referenced a memo signed by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.

Following the decision in which Tinubu Sacked the Ministers, the President appointed Taiwo Oyedele as the new Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy. Oyedele had previously served as Minister of State for Finance in March 2026, positioning him as a familiar figure within the economic management team.

In the housing sector, Dr. Muttaqha Darma was named Minister-designate for Housing and Urban Development.

The memo directed the outgoing ministers to immediately commence handover processes to their successors or supervising officials. All transition activities must be completed on or before the close of business on Thursday, April 23, 2026.

Explaining why Tinubu Sacked the Ministers, Akume noted that the changes were aimed at strengthening cohesion and improving synergy in governance, particularly in sectors considered vital to Nigeria’s economic stability.

“These changes are aimed at strengthening cohesion, synergy in governance as well as achieving more impactful delivery on the economy to Nigerians, through the Renewed Hope Agenda,” Akume stated.

The SGF further emphasized that President Tinubu acted within his constitutional powers as provided under Sections 147 and 148 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), which grant the President authority to appoint and remove ministers.

Political analysts say the move signals the administration’s readiness to recalibrate its economic strategy amid mounting public expectations for improved economic performance, inflation control, housing reforms, and fiscal discipline.

The development that Tinubu Sacked two Ministers comes at a time when Nigeria continues to navigate economic reforms, including exchange rate adjustments, subsidy removals, and fiscal restructuring efforts. The finance ministry, in particular, plays a central role in coordinating monetary and fiscal policy, budget implementation, debt management, and revenue mobilization.

Observers believe the appointment of Taiwo Oyedele could signal a renewed focus on tax reforms, fiscal transparency, and broader economic restructuring. His previous involvement in financial policy discussions has positioned him as a technocratic figure with reform-driven credentials.

Meanwhile, the housing ministry remains critical in addressing Nigeria’s significant housing deficit, estimated in millions of units. Stakeholders in the real estate and construction sectors are expected to closely monitor how the new minister-designate intends to accelerate affordable housing delivery and urban development initiatives.

Despite the shake-up in which Tinubu Sacked the Ministers, the presidency conveyed appreciation to the outgoing officials for their service to the nation. The SGF wished them well in their future endeavors and noted that cabinet reinvigoration would remain a continuous process.

Wale Edun was among the ministers originally appointed on August 16, 2023, while the reshuffle reflects what insiders describe as performance-based adjustments within the cabinet.

As Tinubu Sacks Ministers, analysts interpret the move as part of a broader administrative recalibration under the Renewed Hope Agenda. The administration has consistently emphasized efficiency, accountability, and measurable impact across key economic sectors.

For many Nigerians watching closely, the question now is whether the reshuffle will translate into tangible economic relief, job creation, housing expansion, and stronger macroeconomic stability.

The iNews Times will continue to monitor developments as the new ministers assume office and outline their policy priorities in the coming days.
