…Aregbesola’s message comes as the ADC prepares to challenge the ruling APC in the 2027 general elections.
The iNews Times reports that Rauf Aregbesola, the Interim National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has advised party supporters to refrain from insulting or attacking members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Instead, he urged them to engage APC supporters in fact-based discussions about the country’s economic challenges.
The former Interior Minister, emphasized the need for constructive debates, saying, “When others resort to abuse or name-calling, we must rise above it. Instead, ask them one simple question: Are Nigerians better off today than they were before?”
Aregbesola made this call in a statement released on his social media handles after returning to Lagos following the formal launch of the ADC in Abuja.
He thanked supporters who welcomed him at the Lagos airport and reminded them that the task ahead is immense, requiring a focused and issue-based approach.
“The task before us is immense, and I reminded everyone that we do not need to fight, insult, or attack anyone,” Aregbesola stated.
He encouraged ADC supporters to articulate their position clearly and confidently, explaining why the party represents a credible and necessary alternative for Nigeria’s progress and long-term sustainability.
Aregbesola’s message comes as the ADC prepares to challenge the ruling APC in the 2027 general elections.
The party has been gaining momentum, with notable defections from APC, including Aregbesola himself, who was once a close ally of President Bola Tinubu.
Their political association started in 1999 when Tinubu was governor of Lagos, but they fell out in 2022 over differences in Osun State’s gubernatorial election.
The ADC’s emergence as a formidable opposition force has generated significant interest, with Aregbesola’s leadership playing a crucial role in shaping the party’s direction.
As Interim National Secretary, Aregbesola has vowed to build a party with a clear ideology and commitment to the people, promoting democracy, transparency, social justice, and national development, The iNews Times reports.
