FRSC Easter Deployment: 1,500 Personnel Mobilised to Secure Anambra Roads

…the FRSC Easter deployment also includes intensified patrols and public enlightenment.

Awka, Nigeria — The iNews Times | The FRSC Easter deployment in Anambra has commenced with the mobilisation of 1,500 personnel, including Special Marshals, to oversee major traffic corridors and ensure safer road travel during the Easter celebration.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Command, confirmed the large-scale operation on Wednesday, assuring residents and travellers of enhanced monitoring and emergency preparedness throughout the festive period.

Sector Commander, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno, disclosed that the FRSC Easter deployment is strategically designed to manage anticipated traffic surges and reduce the risk of road crashes, which often increase during holiday seasons.

According to her, emergency response teams have been placed on standby across critical locations in the state to swiftly handle any reported incidents. She noted that operational logistics have been strengthened, with tow trucks, patrol vehicles, motorbikes, and ambulances fully prepared to respond to emergencies and road obstructions.

The Sector Commander explained that the proactive approach is aimed at ensuring that road users experience minimal disruption while travelling to various destinations for Easter activities.

“As part of our Easter operations, we have positioned personnel and equipment across key traffic points to guarantee prompt response to distress calls and to ensure traffic flows smoothly,” she said.

The FRSC Easter deployment also includes intensified patrols and public enlightenment campaigns focused on promoting responsible driving habits. Asekhauno urged motorists to prioritise road safety, obey traffic regulations, and exercise maximum caution, particularly during the period of increased vehicular movement.

She emphasised that speed management, avoidance of dangerous overtaking, and strict adherence to traffic signals remain critical to preventing avoidable crashes.

Beyond drivers, the FRSC boss appealed to passengers to take responsibility for their own safety. She encouraged them to wear seat belts at all times, avoid boarding overloaded vehicles, and promptly report reckless driving to the appropriate authorities.

“We urge all road users to make safety a priority and arrive at their destinations safely. Let’s make this Easter a memorable one, not for crashes but for safe travels and joyful celebrations,” Asekhauno stated.

She further reminded the public that the FRSC toll-free emergency number, 122, remains active and accessible for immediate assistance throughout the Easter period.

“The Command remains committed to saving lives through sustained public enlightenment, strict enforcement, and prompt rescue services,” she added.

The FRSC Easter deployment comes amid expectations of heavy traffic across major highways and urban centres in Anambra State, as residents travel for religious observances, family gatherings, and recreational activities.

Festive seasons typically witness a spike in road usage, making coordinated traffic management and emergency readiness essential. By deploying 1,500 personnel, the Command aims to maintain visibility across strategic junctions, highways, and black spots known for accidents.

Stakeholders in road safety circles have often emphasised the importance of collective responsibility during peak travel periods. While enforcement agencies provide monitoring and rescue support, compliance by motorists and passengers remains the most effective tool in preventing crashes.

The Anambra FRSC Command reiterated that the operation is not merely about enforcement but about preserving lives and property. Through sustained patrols, quick-response mechanisms, and public awareness initiatives, the Corps seeks to reduce fatalities and injuries on the roads.

Residents have been advised to plan their journeys carefully, avoid night travel where possible, and ensure their vehicles are in good mechanical condition before embarking on trips.

As Easter activities gather momentum across churches and communities, the visible presence of FRSC personnel is expected to serve both as reassurance to travellers and as a deterrent to traffic violations.

With emergency teams on alert and operational assets fully deployed, the message from the Command is clear: safety must come first.

The FRSC Easter deployment underscores the agency’s broader mandate of safeguarding lives on Nigerian roads and ensuring that celebrations are marked by peace and safe returns home.

As Anambra residents prepare for one of the most significant periods in the Christian calendar, authorities are urging everyone to cooperate with traffic officials and make responsible decisions behind the wheel.

For any emergency, members of the public are encouraged to dial the FRSC toll-free number 122 for immediate response.
