…the crash involved five occupants, two male adults, two female adults, and one female child.

Awka, Nigeria — The iNews Times reports that one person has died, while four others sustained injuries, in a fatal road traffic crash that occurred at the Nawfia axis near Enugu-Agidi Junction, along the Awka–Onitsha Expressway in Anambra State.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Sector Command, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Saturday by the Sector Public Education Officer, Margaret Onabe.

According to the statement, the crash involved five occupants, two male adults, two female adults, and one female child, travelling in a Mercedes-Benz 4MATIC SUV driven by an unidentified driver.

Onabe disclosed that one female adult lost her life in the crash, while the remaining four occupants sustained varying degrees of injuries, including bruises, fractures, and head trauma.

She attributed the accident to suspected speed violation, tyre burst, and loss of control, noting that the incident occurred at about 9:45 a.m. on December 25, 2025, along the Nteje–Onitsha route, near AA Rano Station, Ogbunike Tollgate.

“The victims were promptly taken to the hospital for treatment, the deceased was deposited in a nearby morgue, while the damaged vehicle was towed to Ogbunike Police Station for further investigation,” the statement said.

The Sector Commander, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

She also urged motorists to avoid overspeeding, ensure proper vehicle maintenance, and strictly obey traffic regulations, emphasising that road safety remains a collective responsibility.

Meanwhile, the FRSC recalled a previous fatal accident at the same Nawfia axis on November 29, during which six persons lost their lives in a collision involving a truck and a commercial bus.

That earlier crash, according to FRSC, was caused by reckless driving and excessive speed, involving a yellow and black tipper truck (registration number FGG21XV) and a red bus (registration number XQ398AA).
