…Urges commuters to support efforts of the FRSC by refusing to patronize overloaded vehicles.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has intensified its enforcement against overloading by transporter, iNews Times reports.

No fewer than 5,217 vehicles have been impounded across its 12 zones in 2024.

The Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide, disclosed this during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.

Ogungbemide said the Corps conducts daily enforcement operations nationwide, targeting overloaded vehicles.

He cited examples of recent arrests made across various locations, including 777 overloaded vehicles impounded in Kaduna zone and 1,266 in Abuja zone.

The FRSC spokesperson acknowledged the challenge of drivers who persist in overloading vehicles despite repeated arrests.

He emphasized that enforcement remains the primary tool, backed by sustained public enlightenment campaigns.

Ogungbemide urged commuters to support the Corps’ efforts by refusing to patronize overloaded vehicles.

“If there’s no market for these drivers, it won’t be enticing for them,” he said.

The FRSC has issued special directives to crack down on “mixed loading,” which poses serious risks.

The Corps has increased its surveillance and engagement efforts to ensure safe transit for all road users, especially during the busy travel season.
