…the FRSC Rescue in Anambra serves as a reminder of the Corps’ expanded role beyond traffic enforcement.

AWKA, NIGERIA — The iNews Times reports that an FRSC Rescue in Anambra has drawn public attention after operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps rescued an unconscious middle-aged man along the busy Awka-Enugu Expressway, directly opposite the FRSC Anambra Sector Command office.

The incident, which occurred on April 8, 2026, has since raised questions about the identity of the victim and the circumstances that led to his condition, as he remains unconscious several days after the rescue operation.

According to the Sector Public Education Officer, SRC Margaret Onabe, officers responded swiftly after the man was discovered lying by the roadside without any visible injuries. The rescue team reportedly arrived at the scene at exactly 7:35 p.m. and evacuated the victim within five minutes.

Onabe explained that despite the alarming situation, there were no immediate signs of trauma or physical injury on the victim’s body. She further stated that there were no eyewitness accounts available at the scene to provide clarity on how the man ended up unconscious opposite the FRSC office.

The victim was immediately transported to the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), Awka, for urgent medical attention. Medical personnel at the hospital commenced treatment in a bid to stabilise him and determine the underlying cause of his condition.

In a follow-up visit conducted on April 13, 2026, a team led by the Sector Medical and Rescue Services Officer (SMRS), Awka, confirmed that all other road traffic crash victims previously admitted at the facility had been discharged. However, the male adult involved in the FRSC Rescue operation remained unconscious at the time of the update.

According to the doctor on duty at COOUTH, efforts to identify the victim have so far been unsuccessful. The man has not regained consciousness, and no relatives or acquaintances have come forward to claim or identify him. Hospital authorities disclosed that they are continuing medical evaluations while awaiting any useful information that could assist in identifying the patient.

The FRSC Anambra Sector Command has appealed to the management of COOUTH to notify the Corps immediately once the victim regains consciousness or if any identifying details emerge. Officials emphasised the importance of early identification in ensuring proper medical history assessment and family notification.

Sector Commander of the FRSC Anambra State Command, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno, commended the rapid response of the rescue team involved in the FRSC Rescue. She reiterated the Command’s unwavering commitment to prompt rescue operations, effective post-crash care, and continuous public enlightenment across the state.

“Our mandate is clear – to save lives,” she stated, underscoring that every distressed individual, whether involved in a crash or found in an emergency situation, deserves immediate assistance.

She also urged members of the public to support the Corps’ humanitarian efforts by helping to identify crash victims and distressed persons whenever possible. According to her, community cooperation remains a vital component in strengthening emergency response systems.

The Command reminded residents that the FRSC toll-free emergency line, 122, remains active and accessible for reporting crashes, emergencies, or distressed individuals across Nigeria. Authorities stressed that early reporting significantly improves response time and survival chances.

While the exact cause of the incident remains unknown, road safety advocates have highlighted the broader importance of vigilance along major highways such as the Awka-Enugu Expressway, which experiences significant vehicular and pedestrian movement daily. Incidents involving unconscious persons without visible injuries can sometimes be linked to underlying health conditions, dehydration, exhaustion, or other medical emergencies.

The FRSC Rescue in Anambra serves as a reminder of the Corps’ expanded role beyond traffic enforcement to include humanitarian intervention and lifesaving emergency response. Observers note that the proximity of the victim to the FRSC office likely contributed to the swift rescue, potentially preventing further complications.

As of press time, the rescued man remains under medical care, and his identity is still unknown. Authorities are calling on anyone with useful information that could assist in identifying him to contact the FRSC Anambra Sector Command or visit COOUTH, Awka.

The iNews Times will continue to monitor developments surrounding the FRSC Rescue in Anambra and provide verified updates as soon as new information becomes available.

For emergency assistance or to provide information, members of the public are encouraged to call the FRSC toll-free number: 122.
