ANGOLA- The iNews Times| Pope Leo has dismissed suggestions that his recent remarks were aimed at Donald Trump, clarifying that the timing of events created a misleading narrative.
Speaking to journalists while en route to Angola, the pontiff explained that a speech he delivered in Cameroon had been prepared well before Trump publicly stated he was “not a big fan” of the American pope. He noted that the overlap in timing led to speculation of a direct exchange, which he firmly rejected.
“And yet it was perceived as if I were trying to start a new debate with the president, which doesn’t interest me at all,” he said.
The pope had earlier referenced “tyrants” disrupting global stability, a statement that quickly drew attention and was widely linked to Trump’s remarks. However, he emphasized that the message was not directed at any individual, but rather addressed broader global issues.
During the same trip, Pope Leo also raised concerns about the growing influence of artificial intelligence, warning that its impact on society goes beyond technological advancement.
“The challenge posed by these systems is greater than it appears: it is not just about the use of new technologies, but about the gradual replacement of reality by its simulation,” he said.
He cautioned that the misuse of AI could deepen societal divisions and erode trust in truth, adding that such developments could fuel polarization, conflict, fear, and violence.
The remarks form part of his ongoing 11-day tour of Africa, where he has taken a more assertive stance on pressing global issues, including peace, technological ethics, and environmental sustainability.
